There is something about celebrating a milestone birthday in the same year as one of my kids that makes my heart happy. I swear I don’t have a favorite child (really!) but the fact that CJ, my oldest and the one who first made me a “Mom”, is celebrating his Sweet 16th this year brings a tear to my eye.
Since this is my first time, I honestly don’t know if celebrating a boy’s 16th birthday is the same as celebrating a girl’s in every family but he and I have the firstborn thing in common and I can relate to some of life’s challenges that have come his way. I do know that, no matter how old we both get, he will always be “my sweet, baby CJ” – even though he hasn’t been a baby for a very long time.
We don’t have a lot planned for his celebration yet. In fact, at the time of drafting this post, he still doesn’t know what he wants – as a gift or for his special dinner and dessert.
